electronic voting machines

July 15, 2006

Electronic voting machines… Who votes: the one using the machine or the one owning it ?

An electronic voting machine combines the confidentiality of each vote with the complexity of a computer. Whatever the results are, you have no way to check if they are accurate. The only thing you see is what the machine has been programmed to show.

Any politician would love a voting machine giving him 5% of the votes of his opponent.

That’s the modern way to buy votes.

We may call stupid those Palestinians who kidnapped an Israeli soldier, giving Israel – some – legitimacy to attack Gaza Strip. But what should we think of Lebanon doing the same thing a few days later ? What could they expect besides being crushed by an obscene asymmetry of strength ? What was the point ? Showing some attitude ? Telling Israel fighting rock throwers with tanks and helicopters is insane ?

the a-bike

a-wesome

I’m not a big fan of using a bike to go to work: not enough facilities to move and park safely. Cities have – in theory – the responsibility to allow bike users to move freely and safely, but parking our bike – and avoiding it to be stolen – is under our own responsibility.

So a super light bike that can be folded and carried on our back could be a very interesting option: article and official site. Unfortunately, this A-Bike doesn’t want anyone heavier than 85 kgs. So I presume tall people won’t fit either – you know, tall people may also want to use environmental friendly options…

I hope this concept of a bike you can easily store under your desk at work will spread. Maybe it will make more mayors think about sharing the roads for something else than cars.

I read Dilbert comics for quite a long time and I knew Scott Adams also has a blog but I didn’t check it until this week. It brings another way to get in the cynical universe of Adams. I really liked his post about female activists in Spain showing tits hoping it will save some bulls. Adams doesn’t need any publicity but it’s a great post.
